Alexandria fire leaves home with extensive damage, 1 injured

The Douglas County Sheriff Office responded to a fire in Alexandria, Minnesota, early Sunday morning that left one 59-year-old injured and the home with extensive damages. 

According to the release, the sheriff's office received a report of an active structure fire at 12:25 a.m. at 600 block of Cardinal Lane SE with five people inside at the time. 

The police said one of the individuals stated the fire started in the kitchen. The individual also said that one person was still inside the residence with the active fire and unable to get out. 

Once authorities arrived at the scene, they were met with a large volume of smoke and flames coming from the residence. 

Brent Alan Baustain, 59, of Alexandria, was located lying outside of the bedroom window on the back side of the home. Baustain was unresponsive but still breathing. 

He was later transported to Alomere Hospital for his injuries. 

According to police, his injuries are considered to be non-life threatening. 

The other four residents were not injured from the fire. 

The Alexandria Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire, although the home's damages are extensive. 

The cause of the fire is still undetermined and is under investigation.
