2 die after early-morning incident outside FedEx facility in Mahtomedi

Two people died early Monday morning after an incident in Mahtomedi.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of two unresponsive people outside a FedEx facility just off Interstate 694 in Mahtomedi at 2:26 a.m. There, deputies found two men, one of whom was pronounced dead. The other was taken to a hospital but later died.

They were identified by the sheriff’s office as 49-year-old David Peterson, of Blaine, and 58-year-old Jimmy Wilemon, of Fulton, Mississippi.

The sheriff’s office said a gun was found at the scene, but authorities are still working to determine what happened. However, there’s not believed to be any threat to public safety.
