2 dead after officer-involved shooting, reported intrusion in Cass County
Two people are dead after an officer-involved shooting occurred when authorities responded to a report of an intruder in a home in Backus.
The Cass County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called about an intruder in a home and a possible shot fired at about 1:38 p.m. Sunday.
Deputies responded and encountered an armed man on a residential street. The sheriff's office said the man approached deputies while holding the gun and a deputy fatally shot the man.
Authorities then located a man who was pronounced dead inside the home.
The sheriff's office said autopsies are scheduled for both men, and the investigation remains active.
Authorities also said there's no threat to the public.
The names of the deceased men and the officers involved will be released at a later time.
The officers involved are currently on paid administrative leave, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.
