1 killed in vehicle crash in Minneapolis
One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Minneapolis.
According to the Minneapolis Police Department, at 3:42 a.m., police and fire officials responded to a severe vehicle crash report at the intersection of 26th Street East and Cedar Avenue South.
Once officers arrived at the scene, they located two vehicles severely damaged to the west of the intersection.
The preliminary investigation indicated one vehicle was going westbound on 26th Street and struck a vehicle that was southbound on Cedar Avenue.
According to police, the three occupants of the eastbound vehicle suffered injuries considered not life-threatening and the driver of the southbound vehicle died at the scene.
The victim is a man in his 50s who was the driver and lone occupant of the southbound vehicle.
Two of the three occupants are both women ages 26 and 35 both in stable condition, but the suspect who is a man in his 30s is in serious but stable condition, said police.
Police said the factors believed to be present in this crash are possible drug or alcohol impairment, excessive speed and failing to obey a traffic control device on the part of the striking vehicle. A warrant for a blood sample to detect the presence of drugs or alcohol in the suspect was executed.
The Minneapolis traffic unit responded and processed the scene with crime lab personnel.
The identity of the victim, along with the nature and cause of death, will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office in the coming days.
