Woodbury football’s Joey Gerlach details committing to Gophers

Woodbury safety/linebacker Joey Gerlach flipped his college commitment this week from South Dakota State to the Gophers. We spoke with Gerlach on Wednesday about getting to play in the Big Ten.

We connected with Gerlach at the Minnesota Football Showcase South team practice at Minnetonka high school. Gerlach and his teammates will play the North team Saturday at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Gerlach noted that the Gophers plan on using him at linebacker. Listed at 6-foot-3, 195-pounds, Gerlach also played some wide receiver and running back for the Royals.

Gerlach’s commitment brings the Gophers’ 2022 commitment total to 15 and five in the state of Minnesota. National Signing Day is set for Dec. 15.
