Wolves, Lynx join Rally the Vote to improve voter registration
The Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx on Wednesday announced they’ve joined Rally the Vote to help increase voter registration efforts.
The nonpartisan coalition is made up of 20 professional sports franchises across the NBA, NFL, MLB, MLS, WNBA and NWSL with a goal of encouraging fans to register to vote and participate in elections.
Citing Census data, Rally the Vote said at least 88 million Americans aren’t registered to vote, and of those registered, only 53% voted in 2018 elections.
The group said the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a dip in voter registration nationwide. Through Rally the Vote, the teams are committed to reaching out to their fans and communities to encourage civic engagement.
The coalition also partnered with When We All Vote and RISE, two nonpartisan nonprofits that focus on the importance of voting.
