With Achonwa, Jefferson injured, Lynx sign Cunane

The Minnesota Lynx have signed a new center as the team deals with more injuries.

Natalie Achonwa and Moriah Jefferson are out indefinitely with a right hamstring strain and a left quadriceps strain, respectively, the team says.

Achonwa was injured on May 8 against Washington. Jefferson was injured Sunday against Los Angeles.

To add more depth while they’re injured, the Lynx signed center Elissa Cunane to a hardship contract.

The 6-foot-5 center was the No. 17 overall pick in the 2022 WNBA draft by Seattle but was waived before the season started.

At North Carolina State, Cunane averaged 14.8 points and 7.9 rebounds over her four-year collegiate career.

The Lynx entered Tuesday with a record of 2-7, the worst in the conference. Minnesota next plays Wednesday in Atlanta.
