Vikings sign defensive lineman, safety, waive Connelly

The Minnesota Vikings announced a series of roster moves on Wednesday.

The team signed defensive lineman Khyiris Tonga, a 338-pound nose tackle to the active roster. Tonga, 26, was a seventh-round pick by Chicago in the 2021 NFL Draft and tallied 24 tackles in his rookie season. He most recently was on Atlanta’s practice squad.

Additionally, the Vikings signed rookie safety Mike Brown to the practice squad. The 24-year-old was waived by Green Bay on Sept. 22 and was previously with the Vikings this summer as an undrafted free agent. His addition comes a day after Lewis Cine had surgery on his leg.

In a corresponding move, the club waived Eden Prairie native Ryan Connelly.

Minnesota also announced Wednesday that wide receiver Blake Proehl has returned to practice. He and Connelly had been on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
