Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell took time Wednesday afternoon to talk with the media about kicker Greg Joseph being named as the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week, QB Kirk Cousins’ willingness to trust his teammates, as well as preparing to take on the Green Bay Packers Sunday at Lambeau Field.

Another topic with O’Connell was TE Irv Smith Jr. returning to practice Wednesday, which opens a 21-day window for the Vikings to add him to the 53-man roster. The possibility of Smith Jr. pairing with Hockenson in some formations sounds very intriguing.

Said O’Connell: “[It’s] proven very beneficial to have guys like T.J. and Irv in there because they can be activated in the pass game – especially with how we get defended with Justin (Jefferson), and Adam (Thielen), and K.J. (Osborn), and our backs being involved, that tight end position can be a real value. And then you start talking about maybe having a couple of those guys on the field at the same time.”

The Vikings-Packers game kicks off Sunday at 3:25 p.m. at Lambeau Field.
