The Viking hosted the first-ever Minneapolis Public Schools Girls Flag Football Jamboree as part of the inaugural MPS Girls Flag Football program on Saturday in the indoor practice field of Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center.

Vikings players CJ. Ham, Greg Joseph, Kenny Willekes and Ihmir Smith-Marsette were on hand to help teach the game and assist in coaching for several games played.

“Just watching them I really just saw how much they conceptually understand the game,” said Ham. “The way they were throwing the ball, catching it, running it. All of these girls out here understand the game of football and if they want to they can continue to go forward.”

Several teams, comprised of approximately 10 middle school-aged girls per team, in the Minneapolis area have been competing for three weeks on Saturdays at Roosevelt High and South High. The final three games of the season were played at the Jamboree.
