Vikings elevating Klint Kubiak to offensive coordinator

The Vikings are promoting quarterbacks coach Klint Kubiak to offensive coordinator, per the NFL Network. This is a move that has been expected since Klint’s dad, Gary, retired a couple weeks ago.

Head coach Mike Zimmer wants to keep the same offensive system in place, rightfully so. The Vikings offense ranked fourth in yards, tied for fourth in yards per play, third in first downs and 11th in scoring in 2020. Quarterback Kirk Cousins has had back-to-back career years with Klint Kubiak as his position coach.

Promoting Klint will keep everything the same, and presumably he’ll still have his dad from afar to lean on for advice. This will be Klint’s first opportunity to call plays.

This is the Vikings’ fifth offensive coordinator in the last five years.

As KSTP Sports has talked about, look for Andew Janocko to take over as quarterbacks coach. He was previously in charge of the wide receivers.
