Vikings activate Chandler, Irv Smith returns to practice

With two weeks left in the regular season, the Minnesota Vikings are close to getting two players back from injuries.

Wednesday, the team announced it activated running back Ty Chandler from injured reserve. Additionally, tight end Irv Smith, Jr. was designated for return and returned to practice.

Chandler suffered a broken thumb in October and was put on injured reserve. He returned to practice earlier this month.

Smith, meanwhile, suffered an ankle injury against Arizona at the end of October that landed him back on injured reserve. With his return to practice, he now has 21 days to participate in team activities without counting against the 53-man roster and can be activated and rejoin the team at any point in that window.

The Vikings are still fighting for the No. 2 seed in the NFC going into Sunday’s game at Green Bay.
