Twins welcome back Michael Pineda from Injured List; Jax optioned to Saints

Minnesota Twins pitcher Michael Pineda is returning to the roster after completing his rehab assignment and has been reinstated from the 10-day Injured List.

The Dominican-born right-hander missed the last 19 games with right elbow inflammation. Pineda made one rehab start for the St. Paul Saints last Thursday against Omaha, pitching four innings with four hits allowed, three walks and one strikeout.

This season with the Twins, Pineda has made 11 starts, going 3-4 with a 3.70 ERA, 15 walks, 51 strikeouts, a .230 opponent batting average and a 1.14 WHIP.

Making room for Pineda on the club’s 26-man roster, right-handed pitcher Griffin Jax has been option to Triple-A in St. Paul. Jax appeared in five games and made one start for Minnesota, going 1-1 with an 8.66 ERA, eight walks and 14 strikeouts. He earned his first career victory on June 25 against Cleveland with 4.1 innings of relief.
