Twins trade minor league pitcher Jimenez for Nationals’ Alexy

In an exchange of right-handed pitchers, the Minnesota Twins announced Tuesday A.J. Alexy will be joining the team this year.

Alexy, who had been claimed off of waivers by the Nationals just last month, previously played for the Texas Rangers. He played in four games this past season for the Rangers, registering six strikeouts and nine walks. However, he played the majority of the season in Triple A, where he pitched in 96 innings and registered 103 strikeouts.

He was acquired by the Rangers in 2017, and before that, was chosen by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2016 draft.

Cristian Jiminez was signed by the Twins in March 2021 and had 49 strikeouts in 10 games in 2022.

In addition to trading Jimenez, the Twins designated right=handed pitcher Oliver Ortega for release or assignment just days after he was claimed off waivers.
