Twins recall Devin Smeltzer, option Lewis Thorpe

The Minnesota Twins announced Thursday they have recalled left-handed pitcher Devin Smeltzer from Triple-A St. Paul and optioned left-handed pitcher Lewis Thorpe to the St. Paul Saints.

Smeltzer has made one appearance for the Twins this season, working the final 4.2 innings of the club’s 6-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 24. He allowed one unearned run on one hit, with one walk and three strikeouts.

This marks his second major league stint this season, according to the club.

Thorpe started Wednesday night’s game against the Texas Rangers, matching his career-high with five innings of work. He has gone 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA (10 innings pitched, five earned runs), two walks and five strikeouts in three appearances (two starts) for Minnesota in 2021.
