Twins put Sano on IL, recall Kirilloff, Gordon

Friday, the Minnesota Twins shook up the roster with several moves.

The team announced infielder Miguel Sano was placed on the 10-day Injured List with a right hamstring strain (retroactive to April 21). The team also optioned infielder Travis Blankenhorn to the alternate training site and returned catcher Tomas Telis to the alternate training site.

In their place, the Twins recalled outfielder Alex Kirilloff and infielder Nick Gordon and selected the contract of infielder Tzu-Wei Lin.

Gordon was Minnesota’s first-round pick in the 2014 MLB Draft and will be looking to make his major league debut. Kirilloff is rated as the Twins’ No. 2 prospect by MLB.com and appeared in one game this season, making his MLB regular-season debut, before being returned to the alternate training site. Lin has played 101 career games across four seasons, all with the Boston Red Sox. If he appears in a game, Lin would be the first Taiwanese-born player in Twins franchise history.

The Twins entered Friday with a 6-11 record, the worst in the American League Central Division.

The team opens a three-game series at Target Field against Pittsburgh on Friday night.
