Twins place Thorpe on IL, select 2 pitchers’ contracts
The Minnesota Twins have placed pitcher Lewis Thorpe on the 10-day Injured List.
Thorpe pitched in Wednesday’s game and left his start in the second inning due to a left shoulder impingement.
The Twins also optioned Edgar Garcia to Triple-A St. Paul.
Garcia was claimed off waivers from the Houston Astros on July 30 and appeared in four games for the Twins, allowing four runs in 7 innings with six strikeouts.
To fill those two roster spots, the Twins selected the contracts of veteran pitchers Andrew Albers and Kyle Barraclough.
Albers, 35, has played in 16 games for the Saints this season, going 6-4 with a 3.86 ERA over 91 innings. He’s making his third career stint with the Twins after pitching for Minnesota in 2013 and 2016.
Barraclough, 31, was signed as a minor league free agent on June 20 and has pitched in 18 games for the Saints this season, going 3-1 with a 2.86 ERA over 22 innings. He’s previously appeared in 270 MLB games with Miami, Washington and San Francisco, going 16-14 with a 3.53 ERA over 252.1 innings.
Additionally, the Twins announced Beau Burrows cleared waivers and was outrighted to St. Paul, making room on the 40-man roster.
