Twins place Simmons on COVID-19 Injured List
Wednesday morning, the Minnesota Twins placed shortstop Andrelton Simmons on the COVID-19 Injured List.
In a corresponding move, the team selected the contract of infielder JT Riddle.
The 31-year-old Simmons has hit .355 with three doubles and three RBI in 10 games so far this season. Riddle, 29, began the season on the Taxi Squad after hitting .167 in 18 spring training games.
With the Twins and Boston Red Sox playing a doubleheader on Wednesday to make up Monday’s postponed game, the Twins also were able to add a 27th man for Wednesday’s games. Outfielder Alex Kirilloff, one of the team’s top prospects, was added as the 27th man. He’s expected to make his first regular-season appearance of his career after debuting in Game 2 of the Wild Card Series against Houston last year.
The Twins entered Wednesday with a 5-5 record after losing three straight games.
