Twins place pitcher Michael Pineda on 10-day IL

The Minnesota Twins have placed right-handed starter Michael Pineda on the 10-day Injured List with an abscess, retroactive to Sunday.

Pineda, 32, has gone 2-2 with a 2.79 ERA in 38.2 innings pitched, 39 strikeouts and a 1.01 WHIP in seven starts for the Twins this season.

To replace his roster spot, the club has selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Luke Farell from Triple-A St. Paul. Farrell, 29, will be making his second stint with the Twins in 2021, after being with the team from April 20-24 and pitching a scoreless inning in the first game of the doubleheader on April 20 at Oakland.

Farrell has posted a 1.93 ERA in 4.2 innings pitched with nine strikeouts in three relief appliances for the Saints this season.
