Twins pitcher Kenta Maeda will miss 2022 season after Tommy John surgery

Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said starting pitcher Kenta Maeda will likely miss the entire 2022 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in Dallas on Wednesday.

Maeda, who is signed through the 2023 season, was acquired by the Twins ahead of the 2020 season from the Los Angeles Dodgers in a trade that sent pitching prospect Brusdar Graterol to LA. In 32 starts with Minnesota, Maeda has gone 12-6 in 173 innings pitched, posting a 3.90 ERA and 1.08 WHIP.

The Twins will now face an issue in the starting rotation next year without one of their most relied-upon starters out for the year.
