Twins pitcher Joe Ryan put on COVID list

The Minnesota Twins have lost starting pitcher Joe Ryan to the COVID-19 list.

The team announced his placement on the list Wednesday.

The 25-year-old rookie is 5-2 with a 2.28 ERA, with 42 strikeouts, 14 walks and a .186 opponent batting average, over 43.1 innings this season.

Taking his spot on the roster is left-handed pitcher Devin Smeltzer, who was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul.

Smeltzer is 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA, with 18 strikeouts and 6 walks over 21 innings for the Saints this year. He’s also made two starts for the Twins this year, going 1-0 with a 1.74 ERA over 10.1 innings.
