Tuesday, ahead of a doubleheader in Detroit, the Minnesota Twins put star shortstop Carlos Correa on the COVID-19 list.
The team said Correa tested positive for COVID-19 during Monday’s game.
In 35 games this season, Correa has hit .279 with 3 home runs, 16 RBI, a .344 on-base percentage and a .751 OPS.
To take his roster spot, the Twins selected Jermaine Palacios from Triple-A St. Paul. The 25-year-old has hit .262 with 3 home runs, 17 RBI, a .325 on-base percentage and a .701 OPS over 39 games for the Saints this year.
He’s in line to make his major league debut on Tuesday.
Additionally, the Twins named pitcher Cole Sands as the 27th man for Tuesday’s doubleheader. He’s scheduled to make his first MLB start in the evening game.
Sands made his major league debut as a reliever on May 1 and has pitched 4 innings across 2 games for the Twins this season, giving up 4 hits and 3 runs.
