Falvey touched on transitioning from Wes Johnson to Maki, and also provided an update on where trade talks stand with the deadline Aug. 2. The Twins, seemingly, need to add a reliever or two, and potentially a starter, if they want to make a deep postseason run.
Maki, 39, began the 2022 season as the club’s bullpen coach, his third campaign in that role. The Lufkin, Texas native originally joined the Twins organization prior to the 2018 season as minor league pitching coordinator and has been part of the club’s major league staff since 2020, when he served as interim bullpen coach. Prior to joining Minnesota, he worked as an assistant coach at the University of New Haven (2006-07), as assistant pitching coach at Columbia University (2008-15) and as the pitching coach at Duke University (2015-17).
