Twins DFA Thornburg, select Minaya
The Minnesota Twins have added a different arm to the bullpen.
Friday, the team designated pitcher Tyler Thornburg for release or assignment and selected the contract of Juan Minaya.
Thornburg made five relief appearances for the Twins — including Thursday when he gave up 3 runs over 1.2 innings and suffered the loss — allowing 3 runs over 9.2 innings with 6 walks and 4 strikeouts.
Minaya will be making his second stint of the season with the Twins after appearing in four games between May 28 and June 8. He’s also thrown 21.1 innings for the St. Paul Saints this season, going 0-2 with a 5.91 ERA, 12 walks and 23 strikeouts.
The Twins open a new series at home against Baltimore on Friday night.
