Twins add Coulombe to 40-man as roster takes shape

The Minnesota Twins’ roster is taking shape with the start of the regular season now just a few days away.

Monday, the team added left-handed pitcher Danny Coulombe to the 40-man roster and, to make room for him, designated catcher José Godoy for release or assignment.

Godoy was claimed off waivers from the San Francisco Giants on March 17 and played in seven spring training games for the Twins. With the move to designate him, Minnesota now has only two catchers on the 40-man roster — Ryan Jeffers and Gary Sánchez.

Coulombe was a non-roster invitee to Twins spring training but has spent parts of the past two seasons with the Twins. He appeared in two games for Minnesota in 2020, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings. Last season, he appeared in 29 games for the Twins, going 3-2 with a 3.67 ERA over 34.1 innings while striking out 33. He also played in 14 games for the Triple-A affiliate St. Paul Saints, going 1-1 with a 1.77 ERA over 20.1 innings and striking out 27.

The Twins also reassigned pitcher Jake Faria and infielder Daniel Robertson to Triple-A St. Paul.

With Monday’s moves, the Twins now have 30 players in spring camp, with only one non-roster invitee: Kyle Garlick.

Minnesota plays its final two spring training games on Monday and Tuesday before opening the season at Target Field on Thursday against the Seattle Mariners.
