Twins activate Joe Smith from IL, option Winder

The Minnesota Twins have reinstated relief pitcher Joe Smith from the 15-day injured list.

In a corresponding move Wednesday, the team optioned pitcher Josh Winder to Triple-A St. Paul.

Winder started Tuesday night’s game against Milwaukee, which the Brewers won 6-3. In his most recent stint with the Twins, he started two games, going 1-1 with a 6.30 ERA over 10 innings, including four walks and five strikeouts.

Smith has missed the last 18 games for the Twins after suffering from what the team calls upper trap tightness.

In 28 games this season, Smith has tallied a record of 1-1 with a 2.78 ERA, eight walks, 13 strikeouts and 14 holds over 22.2 innings.
