Turkish basketball prospect David Mutaf committed to the Gophers men’s basketball program on Sunday afternoon.
Mutaf, a 6-foot-6 left-handed guard, is from Istanbul and played on the Turkey junior national team. He is considered a solid perimeter shooter with a high basketball IQ. Mutaf told KSTP Sports that ex-Gopher Amir Coffey and how he was used has come up in talks with coach Richard Pitino.
Mutaf, who’s currently at home in Turkey, isn’t sure when he’ll be able to come to Minnesota to start summer workouts.

Arkansas, USC, Arizona State, Georgetown and Missouri also showed interest in Mutaf.
Today is the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in my life and basketball career, I’d like to thank Richard Pitino and his staff for the attention and care they’ve shown me during recruitment. pic.twitter.com/9iTv6AoMZ5
