Totino-Grace preparing for fall football season

The word isn’t official yet whether there will be a football season this fall in Minnesota, but Totino-Grace high school is certainly hopeful.

"We’ve been preparing like there will be a season in the upcoming weeks. But we can only control what we can control and that is how we get our kids focusing on having good practices and letting others decide when they feel it’s safe enough to play," said Totino-Grace head coach Jay Anderson.

One of the players who gets a lot of attention on the team is senior offensive lineman/tight end Joe Alt. Alt is committed to play his college ball at the University of Notre Dame next year. But right now he wants to enjoy his senior season, something he is hoping will start sooner than later.

"I’m not a very vocal guy. I don’t do much talking. I try to set examples for this team with my actions. I just want my senior year to be with these guys and have as much fun with them as I can. I hope we have a season starting soon. But I know the ones making that decision only have our best interest at heart," said Alt.

Eagles quarterback Kristoff Kowalkowski is also a senior that would love nothing more than to buckle up the chin strap for games in the coming weeks. He’s committed to play next year at the University of St. Thomas when the school makes the jump to Division-I.

"I can’t express enough how much I want to play. These guys mean so much to me and to have the opportunity to play in the fall instead of having to wait until the spring will be absolutely huge. I’ll say this much: If the season started tomorrow, we’d be ready to go," said Kowalkowski.

The official vote to play high school football in the fall is slated to take place Monday morning when the Minnesota State High School League gets together to render their decision.
