Totino-Grace boys hoops advance to the Section 4AAA Final

The Totino-Grace Eagles boys basketball team defeated the Columbia Heights Hylanders 91-65, Tuesday evening at Totino-Grace High School to advance to their section final.

The first half belonged to the Eagles. They jumped out to a 16-3 lead early. The Hylanders did cut it to 29-25, but Totino-Grace was able to stretch it back to a 46-31 halftime lead behind the play of sophomore Tommy Humphries, junior CJ O’Hara, and sophomore Taison Chatman.

In the second half, Columbia Heights started out hot behind the play of junior Hassen Kamara and junior Mujahiid Burton, cutting the lead to 52-42, following a Burton three-pointer.

But, Chatman answered right back with two three-pointers of his own, and Totino-Grace pushed the lead back to 16 with 13:35 left in the game.

From there, the Eagles asserted their will on both ends, extending the lead to 75-50 with over six minutes left in the game. senior DJ Akpati, junior Demarion Watson, and senior Devin Burger all had huge impacts on offense for Totino-Grace in the second half. Chatman and O’Hara finished with 17 points to lead the Eagles.

With the win, the Eagles advance to the Section 4AAA final against the Minnehaha Academy Redhawks.
