It’s a big week for high school track athletes trying to qualify for the state meet, and accomplishing that would cap off a special season for three shot put throwers at Rogers High School.

Freshman Anya Schmidt, junior Hannah Bruskiewicz, and senior Jamie Kerkvliet have at one point set the school record for girls shot put this season, sometimes in the same track meet.

Schmidt broke the school record at a Monticello Invite earlier in the season, a few meets later Kerkvliet tied Schmidt’s school record. During that meet, Schmidt’s last throw broke her own record, making her the solo school record holder, again.

Later in the season, Schmidt and Kerkvliet broke their personal records which also broke the previous record set by Schmidt.

Also, first year thrower Bruskiewicz topped both Schmidt and Kerkvliet, and set the new school record of 36 feet, 6.5 inches and currently holds the record.

“It’s been a fun season, the school record was the goal for all three of these girls,” said Max Carlson, the Royals shot put coach. “All three of them have pushed each other pretty well and it’s been fun to see them compete.”
