State Hockey: Mahtomedi upsets top seed Warroad in 1A semifinals

No. 4 seed Mahtomedi upset No. 1 seed Warroad 5-1 at the Class A boys hockey state tournament on Friday, March 6 at the Xcel Energy Center.

Junior forward Adam Johnson had two second period goals to lead the Zephyrs in scoring. Sophomore goalie Ben Dardis had 29 saves for Mahtomedi.

The lone Warroad (27-3-0) goal was a powerplay goal scored by senior forward Grant Slukynsky with the assist from ninth-grade defender Jayson Shaugabay.

No. 4 seed Mahtomedi (22-8-0) will meet No. 3 seed Hermantown in the Class A finals on Saturday at noon.
