St. Thomas men’s basketball ready for second season in D-1

The St. Thomas men’s basketball team is knee-deep in preseason training with its season opener Nov. 7 at Creighton. The non-conference schedule also includes a game at Utah.
The 2022-23 Summit League Preseason Coaches’ Poll was released earlier this week. The Tommies were selected to finish eighth, Oral Roberts first.
KSTP Sports attended a recent Tommies practice and spoke with 12th year head coach Johnny Tauer and first-year players Ahjany Lee and Carter Bjerke.

Lee (Totino-Grace HS) and Bjerke (Wayzata HS) are part of a star-studded recruiting class. The other newcomers are freshmen Kendall Blue (East Ridge HS) and Andrew Rohde (Brookfield, Wisconsin), plus Liberty transfer Drake Dobbs (Eden Prairie HS).
The Tommies’ home opener is Nov. 11 vs. Chicago State.
