The St. Thomas men’s hockey team knew there would be growing pains making the transition from D-III to D-I this season, but despite winning only one game in 20 tries, the team is optimistic about how much they’ve grown together. KSTP Sports was at Thursday’s practice.

"We knew coming into this season it would be difficult making the jump to D-I, but I’m very happy to see how the team has come together and how they’ve never given up on one another," says Tommies head coach Rico Blasi.

Senior forward Matt Jennings is a transfer from Ohio State and saw something special and wanted to become a Tommie.

"I wanted to be a part of history in this program making the transition to D-I. The university academically is top notch and I wanted to help this team build the foundation from the ground up," Jennings said.

"I loved having the opportunity to stay home and play for such a great university, these guys are great and I see great things happening with this team in the future," Tommies junior defenseman Trevor Zins said.

Zins is a transfer from St. Cloud State and grew up in St. Michael.

The Tommies host Bowling Green State on Friday at Saturday at 7 p.m. at St. Thomas Ice Arena.
