The transition from Division III to Division I football went pretty well for the University of St. Thomas in 2021. The Tommies 7-3 overall and 6-2 in the Pioneer Football League.

Even with the year one success, Tommies head coach Glenn Caruso knows nothing will come easy during the 2022 season.

“We’re not gonna sneak up on anybody anymore, so we have to be on point,” Caruso told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS.

Caruso enters his 15th season in charge of the Tommies program. He saw upgrade in talent on the field going from the MIAC to the Pioneer League but was also extremely impressed how good the coaching is in his new conference.

“Certainly (the players) ran faster and they were a lot bigger and all that but (the coaches) really make you work for absolutely everything.”

The Tommies open the season at Southern Utah on September 1.
