Lopez broke the game open with touchdown runs of 7 and 22 yards in the second half to give the Cadets an 18-0 lead in the fourth quarter.
However, South St. Paul got on the board late in the game when senior Alonzo Dodd took a St. Thomas kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown that cut the Packers deficit to 12 points. St. Thomas Academy’s defense held tight not giving South St. Paul much breathing room the entire game and STA eventually ran out the clock to secure its first win of the season.
St. Thomas will host Two Rivers on Thursday, while South St. Paul travels to face Tartan on Saturday.
