A source with direct knowledge tells our Darren ‘Doogie’ Wolfson that the Twins have shown interest in free agent shortstop Marcus Semien. However, an offer has not been made.

Semien, 30, finished third in American League MVP voting in 2019, when he played all 162 games for Oakland and hit .285 with 33 home runs and 92 RBIs.

His offensive numbers dipped in 2020 — he hit .223 with seven homers and 23 RBIs in 53 games — Semien had a great postseason, hitting .407 with two homers in the A’s seven games.

While a deal doesn’t appear imminent, it points to the Twins’ front office looking at myriad possibilities. If they add a middle infielder, Jorge Polanco could be trade bait or moved to second base. If the latter, Luis Arraez could be a valuable trade chip in the quest to find a starting pitcher.
