Q&A: Ex-NBA Coach of Year Sam Mitchell on Wolves and Gophers opening

Gophers AD Mark Coyle is expected to reach out to many candidates about the vacant Gophers men’s basketball coaching opening. One name that could be on his list is ex-Raptors and Wolves coach Sam Mitchell.

We talked with Mitchell on Tuesday about his desire to coach again, the Timberwolves at roughly the halfway point of their season, and what Minnesota means to him.

Mitchell, 57, is currently an analyst for NBA-TV and Sirius Satellite NBA Radio. He has previously served as a head coach in the NBA for the Raptors and Wolves, and was an assistant in college at Memphis under Penny Hardaway.
