No. 20 Bethel knocked off No. 2 St. John’s in MIAC opener

A reputation is building when St. John’s and Bethel meet on the football field, it’s becoming the marque matchup in the MIAC, and the latest edition of the rivalry lived up to the billing with No. 20 Bethel winning 28-24 over No. 2 St. John’s in Arden Hills that ended a eight game losing streak to the Johnnies.
St. John’s led 10-7 at halftime, before both teams scored 35 points combined in the final two quarters.
The Johnnies led 17-14 at the start of the fourth quarter. Both teams exchanged touchdowns, when Bethel scored the final touchdown on the game with just over nine minutes remaining giving them a 28-24 lead.

Bethel senior quarterback Jaran Roste threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns on 19 completions against the Johnnies.
Bethel totaled 506 yards of total offense to St. John’s 414 yards.

Bethel improved to 2-1 on the season and will travel to Gustavus on October 1st.
St. John’s sustained their first loss of the season and is 2-1. The Johnnies will host Concordia next Saturday.
