No. 2 Prior Lake girls lacrosse takes down No. 1 Edina, win Section 6

The No. 2 Prior Lake Lakers defeated the No. 1 Edina Hornets 11-6 on Thursday evening at Kuhlman Stadium to win Section 6 and advance to the State Tournament.

Prior Lake senior captain Payton Bloedow started just over one minute into the game to make it 1-0 with 23:46 remaining in the first half.

Edina answered with three straight goals. First from senior captain Haley Reeck, then from sophomore Nicola Santoni, finally from Reeck again to make it 3-1 Edina with 10:29 left in the first half.

Bloedow would score again for the Lakers to make it 3-2 with 5:44 left in the first half.

Junior captain Cordelia Flemming scored for Edina to make it 4-2 Hornets with 5:15 remaining in the first half. Then, Reeck scored her third first-half goal to make it 5-2 Edina with 2:37 left in the half.

But, Prior Lake senior Mackenzie Salentre score with just 12.1 seconds left in the first half to make it 5-3 Edina going into halftime.

In the second half, Salentre added her second goal to make it a 5-4 game. Then, Flemming scored again for Edina to make it 6-4 with 21:37 left in the game.

From that point on, Prior Lake dominated the game on both offense and defense. The Lakers did not allow another Edina goal for the remainder of the game and scored seven unanswered goals.

Bloedow scored again to make it 6-5 with 16:06 left in the game. Then, sophomore Megan Sporney tied the game with 15:34 remaining. Then, Salentre scored her third goal of the game to give Prior Lake the 7-6 lead with 10:37 left in the game. Junior Lindsey Grove scored to make it 8-6 with 8:57 remaining. Sophomore Rachel Ward made it 9-6 with 7:57 left in the second half. Sophomore Nina Winter then scored to make it 10-6 Prior Lake with 2:16 remaining. Finally, Salentre added her fourth goal of the game to make it 11-6 with 35.4 seconds remaining.

Prior Lake wins Section 6 and will be able to defend their 2019 State Championship title.
