No. 1 Saint Michael-Albertville’s big inning propels them past Edina

The #1 Saint Michael-Albertville (STMA) Knights baseball team defeated the Edina Hornets 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Saint Michael-Albertville High School.

The Knights struck first when Hunter Palmer scored on a steal and a throwing error to make it 1-0 STMA in the bottom of the first inning.
In the top of the third inning Edina’s Adam Berghult drove in Max Dzandzara with an RBI single to make it 1-1. Drew Sparrow then hit an RBI double, but Berghult was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. Edina led 2-1 going into the fourth inning.
In the bottom half of the fourth STMA’s Matthew Maulik’s sacrifice fly scored Eric Fouquette to make it 2-2.
In the top of the fifth, Sparrow hit an RBI single to make it 3-2 Edina.
But, the Knights would answer right back in the bottom of the fifth. Owen Neros doubled. Kaden Amundson would hit an RBI single to make it 3-3. STMA loaded the bases when Fouquette walked. Then, Jack Denne cleared the bases with an 3-RBI double to put the Knights up 6-3.
STMA would take care of the rest for the victory, improving to 13-3 on the season.
