New Vikings tight end Chris Herndon met with the Minnesota media for the first time since arriving to town. The Vikings traded for the ex-Jet after losing Irv Smith Jr. (knee) for the season.

Herndon is expected to fill the No. 1 spot on the Vikings tight end depth chart following Smith’s injury. That role for Sunday though will be tough with limited knowledge of the playbook. If fully healthy, Tyler Conklin is expected to be the No. 1 tight end at Cincinnati.

Herndon, drafted in the fourth round of the 2018 Draft, has played in 33 games so far in his career, starting in 25 of them. He has recorded 71 receptions for 796 yards and 7 touchdowns in his three years.

The Vikings gave up a 2022 4th rounder for Herndon and a 2022 6th round pick. The Jets are also paying a portion of Herndon’s salary for the year.
