McCutcheon and Samedy preview Gophers Sweet 16 matchup

Minnesota Gophers volleyball head coach Hugh McCutcheon and redshirt senior Stepanie Samedy met with the media at Maturi Pavilion on Tuesday morning ahead of their Sweet 16 matchup against Baylor on Thursday in Madison.

McCutcheon spoke about the Gopher playing in the Sweet 16, how his team has grown over the course of the season, his thoughts on six Big Ten teams making the Sweet 16, the team being familiar playing at Wisconsin’s Field House, having five of his players named to the All-North Region Team, facing Baylor again, and Baylor’s growth as a team.

Samedy discussed how she balances her personal life with being an athlete, playing two seasons in one calendar year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, how she has seen the team grow over the year, playing Baylor for the second time this season, what Melani Shaffmaster brings to the team, and how she feels being named the North Region Player of the Year.

The Gophers-Baylor match is set to begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
