Maple Grove tops Andover 4-1 in state title game rematch

After falling to Andover in the Class 2A championship of the Boys’ State Hockey Tournament last season, Maple Grove earned a little payback with a 4-1 win Thursday night in Andover.

After a scoreless first period, Andover opened the scoring with a goal from Cayden Casey midway through the second period. Maple Grove answered 55 seconds later when Jay Ellingson scored the first of his two goals. The Crimson took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission off a goal from Finn Brink.

Ellingson scored his second of the night early in the third period and Maple Grove capped off the 4-1 win with an empty-net goal by Lucas Margenau.
