Lynx trade Odysssey Sims, free roster spot for free agent Aerial Powers

The Lynx have traded Odyssey Sims, the exclusive negotiating rights to Temi Fagbenle, and their 2022 first and third-round picks to Indiana in exchange for the Fever’s 2022 second-round pick. This paves the way for the Lynx to sign free agent Aerial Powers.

WNBA teams can have a max of six guaranteed contracts. Powers will take the place of Sims. Indiana is expected to waive Sims. If she clears waivers, the Lynx could bring her back on a non-guaranteed deal.

Sims, 27, spent the past two seasons with the Lynx, seeing her best season come in 2019 where she held averages of 14.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.4 assists in 34 games (all starts).

Powers, a five-year veteran and 2019 WNBA Champion, joins the Lynx after spending the first five seasons of her career with the Dallas Wings and the Washington Mystics organizations. In 104 career games (16 starts) she holds averages of 10.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 19.0 minutes per game.

“Aerial Powers is an exciting young player with endless potential,” said Lynx coach and general manager Cheryl Reeve. “She plays with a great deal of passion, is a dynamic scorer, and defends at a high level. We are excited to welcome her to the Lynx family.”
