Lynx pick Mikiah Herbert Harrigan 6th overall in WNBA Draft

The Minnesota Lynx on Friday night selected Mikiah "Kiki" Herbert Harrigan from the University of South Carolina with the sixth overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft.

It’s the second consecutive year the Lynx picked sixth overall, drafting University of Connecticut forward Napheesa Collier last year, who went on to win Rookie of the Year.

Herbert Harrigan, a 6-2 senior, played in 31 games (all starts) for the Gamecocks, averaging 13.1 ppg and a career-high 5.6 rpg. A 2017 NCAA National Champion, Herbert Harrigan joined Alaina Coates and A’ja Wilson as the only South Carolina players to amass 1,000 points and 200 blocks in their college careers. She sits second in school rankings for total blocks (210), according to the Lynx.

It was the first time the Lynx selected a player from South Carolina in the WNBA Draft.

In the second round, the Lynx added guard Crystal Dangerfield from the University of Connecticut, reuniting her with her former teammate, Collier.

The team then finished the draft by trading for 26th overall pick guard Erica Ogwumike, who was drafted by New York. In exchange, the Lynx sent sent forward Stephanie Talbot to New York.

Ogwumike’s older sisters are WNBA stars Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike.
