Lynx forward Achonwa announces pregnancy
Minnesota Lynx forward Natalie Achonwa had a special birthday announcement on Tuesday.
In an Instagram post, Achonwa announced that she’s pregnant, writing, “they say your 30th is special… well, best gift yet #happybirthdaytome #birthdaygift #family #pregnant.”
Lynx Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations Cheryl Reeve then released a statement saying, “On behalf of Lynx players, coaches and staff, I want to share a heartfelt congratulations to Natalie and her family. Being a parent is an exceptional joy and we wish Natalie a healthy pregnancy.”
Achonwa was chosen ninth overall by Indiana in the 2014 WNBA Draft and joined the Lynx as a free agent ahead of the 2021 season.
She’s a three-time Olympian with Canada and won the 2019 WNBA Community Assist Award.
Last season, Achonwa averaged 5.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game for Minnesota.
It wasn’t immediately clear if Achonwa will be able to play for the Lynx at all in 2023.
