Gophers volleyball ready for season opener Friday

The No. 5 Gophers volleyball team opens their 2022 season Friday in Dallas vs. Baylor.

KSTP Sports attended a recent practice and spoke with outside hitter Taylor Landfair and outside/opposite hitter Jenna Wenaas.

Wenaas was named Preseason All-Big Ten, while Landfair is ready to rebound from an injury-filled 2021 season. She missed most of the season with an abdomen injury.

Landfair came to the Gophers as the top-ranked recruit in the country two years ago, but is still considered a freshman. The 2021 spring season, her true freshman year, was a shortened one and didn’t count against any player’s eligibility. Then, the 2021 fall season, Landfair didn’t play in enough matches to gain a year of eligibility. The medical red-shirt means she has four years of eligibility remaining.

Last year the Gophers went 23-9 (15-5 Big Ten), lost in the Regional Final.
