Jaden McDaniels to miss season-opener, Wolves say

The Minnesota Timberwolves will be without one of their starters when they open the new NBA season on Wednesday.

The team announced that forward Jaden McDaniels — who suffered a left calf strain while at the NBA Abu Dhabi Games three weeks ago — won’t be ready to play in Toronto.

The announcement came a day after the Wolves and McDaniels agreed to a five-year, $136 million contract extension that will start next year.

Minnesota says McDaniels will be evaluated day-to-day, and further updates about his progress will be provided when available.

After Wednesday’s start to the regular season, the Wolves will play at Target Center for the first time this season when Miami comes to town on Saturday.
