The Hopkins boys hoops team is back in the gym after a long COVID-19-related layoff. They didn’t get it a chance in March to defend their 2019 big school state championship.
We were at a recent workout, and caught up with 2022 college recruit Elvis Nnaji and long-time Royals coach Ken Novak Jr.

Elvis Nnaji, the cousin of NBA Draft prospect and former Hopkins star Zeke Nnaji, is earning more-and-more attention from college programs. Arizona is the latest school to offer, and previously the Gophers and Marquette did the same. Many other schools are keeping tabs, and are expected to offer at a later date.
Elvis is a 6’9" forward, who prides himself on being able to play multiple positions. He’s among a star-studded Minnesota 2022 Class that also includes G/F Cam Heide (Wayzata), PG Tre Holloman (Cretin-DH) and F Prince Aligbe (Minnehaha Academy).
With Novak Jr., we talked the joy of finally being back in the gym after the long time away, the new atypical normal for all of us, Nnaji, and more.
