Gustavus football team surprised by two NFL Hall of Famers

Earlier this week, the Gustavus football team was surprised during their virtual team meeting. Hall of Famer Tony Dungy and future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning spent a few minutes addressing the players.
We talked with Gustavus head coach Peter Haugen about how he tracked down Manning and Dungy, what their messages were, how special the virtual gathering was, and more.

Gustavus is in the middle of spring practice, which because of the COVID-19 pandemic is being conducted virtually. Haugen said the message he tells his players all the time is the worst anyone can say is no. But you’ll never know, if you don’t ask. So Haugen took his shot and was able to land Manning and Dungy for over 30 minutes.
Manning and Dungy combined to win Super Bowl XLI with the Indianapolis Colts.
